چکیده

Abstract. Based on recent results of AlpArray, we propose a new model Alpine collision that involves subduction and detachment thick (∼ 180 km) European lithosphere. Our approach combines teleseismic P-wave tomography existing local earthquake (LET), allowing us to image the slabs their connections with overlying orogenic lithosphere at an unprecedented resolution. The images call into question conventional notion downward-moving comprise only seismically fast We is heterogeneous, locally containing layered positive negative Vp anomalies up 5 %–6 %. attribute this heterogeneity seismic anisotropy and/or compositional differences inherited from Variscan pre-Variscan cycles rather than thermal anomalies. lithosphere–asthenosphere boundary (LAB) Plate therefore lies below conventionally defined seismological LAB. P wave tomography of the mantle under the Alpine-Mediterranean area

[1] We study the upper mantle P wave velocity structure below the Euro-Mediterranean area, down to 1000 km depth, by seismic travel time tomography. We invert summary residuals constructed with both regional and teleseismic first arrival data reported by the International Seismological Centre (ISC) (1964–1995), introducing some alternative strategies in the travel time tomographic approach and ...

Mantle shear-wave tomography and the fate of subducted slabs.

A new seismic model of the three-dimensional variation in shear velocity throughout the Earth's mantle is presented. The model is derived entirely from shear bodywave travel times. Multibounce shear waves, core-reflected waves and SKS and SKKS waves that travel through the core are used in the analysis. A unique aspect of the dataset used in this study is the use of bodywaves that turn at shall...

the comparative impact of prompts and recasts in processing instruction versus meaningful output-based instruction on efl learners’ writing accuracy

the purpose of the present study was to see which one of the two instruction-processing instruction (pi) and meaningful output based instruction (mobi) accompanied with prompt and recast- is more effective on efl learners’ writing accuracy. in order to homogenize the participants in term of language proficiency a preliminary english test (pet) was administrated between 74 intermediate students ...

Teleseismic P-Wave Tomogram of the Yellowstone Plume

[1] Inversion of a new data set of teleseismic P-wave travel-times from three PASSCAL seismic deployments around the Yellowstone hotspot reveals a 100 km diameter upper mantle plume that extends from the Yellowstone volcanic caldera to 500 km depth and dips 20 to the northwest. A monotonic decrease in the velocity perturbation of the plume from 3.2% at 100 km to 0.9% at 450 km is consistent wit...

Teleseismic Wave-equation Reflection Tomography Using Free Surface Reflected Phases

Abstract. Reverse-time migration (RTM) of teleseismic converted and free-surface reflected phases has been successful in helping to constrain the structure of the crust and upper mantle, but its accuracy is to a large extent determined by the background velocity model used in the underlying wave propagation. To this end, we develop a technique for RTM based wave-equation reflection tomography i...
